Single Feed on Sky HD BOX

If you are using a Sky HD box but only have one coaxfeed you will need to turn the Single Feed Mode on in the services menu, read on for instructions on how to do this….

  • Connect your single satellite feed to the connection on the back of your box marked “Dish Input 1“.
  • Press Services on your Sky HD Remote.
  • Now press the right arrow key once, Settings will now be highlighted in orange.
  • Highlight the Picture tab in the middle menu by pressing the down arrow key once.
  • You now need to access the hidden menu by pressing 0 (zero), then number 1 then select. You will now see Setup in a hidden menu.
  • Now go to Single Feed Mode by pressing the down arrow key 5 times.
  • Turn on the Single Feed Mode by pressing the right arrow key once, then save the settings by pressing the green button.
  • The warning message letting you know you are turning the Single Feed Mode ON will be displayed, just press select to confirm and your box will reboot.
  • Once rebooted you’re ready to go with just the one feed.

De juiste router voor Internet via Satelliet

Afgelopen weekend heb ik de Internet Via Satelliet (ik noem het vanaf nu IVS) installatie in gebruik genomen. De bedoeling is dat alle computers in het netwerk de beschikking moeten hebben over internet. Het internetmodem, de IDU, geeft zelf geen IP adressen uit. Je kunt er wel één pc aan hangen en daarmee internetten, maar dat is natuurlijk niet optimaal.

Daarom heb ik eerst wat geknutseld met een router/switch die ik hier nog op een stapel apparatuur had liggen. Echter, deze ging niet werken. Dit is een modem/router voor aDSL. En die gaf me een partij vreemde adressen waardoor de ene pc het wel doet, maar  mijn server weer niet ziet… pfffff!  Een heel gedoe dus.

Maar toch ook weer niet zo’n heel gedoe, want vandaag heb ik even een Linksys E2000 router/switch gekocht. En die ging eigenlijk meteen zonder problemen. Dus nu draaien alle computers internet via de satelliet. Voordeel is meteen dat de beveiliging een stuk beter is door de ingebouwde FireWall.

Internet Via Satelliet, ik noem het vanaf nu IVS, is een goed alternatief wanneer er geen ADSL- of kabelinternet beschikbaar is. In het verleden was dit omslachtig doordat dit in combinatie met een telefoonlijn ging. Maar de nieuwe KA-SAT opstelling van TooWay gaat als de “brandweer”.

Wij hebben sinds deze week  ook een demonstratie-model staan op de werkplaats.  De set hadden wij al geruime tijd in huis, maar door vakantie(s) waren wij niet  in staat deze eerder in gebruik te nemen.  De set bestaat uit een speciale schotel, de lnbf .. die noemen we hier BUC en een modem.

De schotel is speciaal gemaakt voor dit doel. Het is daarom niet mogelijk de BUC zonder aanpassingen op een “gewone” schotel te zetten. En daarnaast is hij ook een flink stuk zwaarder dan een normale lnbf. Ga me dus niet bellen om te vragen of we het ook op een Triax 64cm schotel kunnen ‘hangen’!

Binnenkort vertel ik je meer over de gebruikers-ervaring. Uiteraard mag je gerust een keer komen kijken als je zelf wilt ervaren hoe de snelheid aanvoelt.

How to get Sky Digital in Holland?

So, you’re an expat and your boss decided to move your family to this wonderful place we call Holland?  Ouch!!!  How can we make your life more enjoyable during your stay? I assume you will want to watch tv in your native language?  So, what does it take to get Sky Digital while living abroad?

In the UK and Ireland it is pretty easy when you want Sky. You just order the package and the Sky installer will fix the antenna to your house. Easy Peasy!

Officially it is not possible to get Sky while living abroad. All the bars and cafes you see in the Costa’s have boxes and subscription cards (Skycard) which are registered to an English or Irish address.

So, how does that work when you want Sky in Holland?  Also, not that difficult!  While the Sky receiver (SkyBox) in the UK is free these boxes need to be connected to a phone line. Sky will ‘call’ your box now and then to check if it still there. And in the meantime they want you to use the phoneline to order movies and other services. You understand this will not work when using the box in Holland. The box you get for free we call it the ‘subsidised’ version and the ones we sell the ‘non-subsidised’. Our boxes don’t have to be connected to a phoneline.

In order to subscribe to Sky Digital you will have to register the Skycard to an English address. If you still have an UK/Irish address you can use that to order the card. If not, we can order one for you. The first option is the best. That way you will have full control over your own account at Sky. But if, for some reason, that is not possible we can ask our supplier to order a card for you. They charge an annual ‘hosting’fee to register the card. You will have no control over your account and we serve as your ‘middle-man’ when it comes to dealing with Sky. Not a biggie… we have been doing that for more than 12 years.

You decide what you want us to deliver, the Skybox.. the Skycard… or install the whole lot. The prices are, HD SKYBOX 500GB HDD = €299,00 – SKYCARD = €199,00 (annual hosting) – installation?

ESPN HD via satelliet

ESPN HD, het Amerikaanse Sportkanaal is zeer populair bij de sport kijkers in Nederland. Via UPC en de andere kabel-aanbieders wordt de HD versie helaas (nog) niet aangeboden. Een goed alternatief, alleen als het wat geld mag kosten, is een abonnement op het Engelse Sky Digital. Deze Engelse tegenhanger van Canal Digitaal heeft dit kanaal gewoon in het Sportpakket zitten. Op de site van ESPN kan je zien welke programma’s uitgezonden worden, al dan niet in HD.

Heb je al een Sport abonnement bij Sky, dan betaal je £9 en heb je nog geen Sport abonnemt dan betaal je £12 per maand bovenop de bestaande abonnementskosten. Kijk hier voor meer informatie (niet in Nederland te bestellen via deze site)
